If it is a non-life threatening emergency, call 645-4545. If it is a life threatening emergency, call 911.
1. When calling 645-4545, tell the Dispatcher:
· Street Name and Number of the nearest building in which you see the suspicious activity
· Description of suspicious person/activity
· Your name and telephone in case the police need to speak with you again for more details.
2. Answer any other questions the Dispatcher may have, and then hang up.
3. If you do not know where you are when you see something suspicious or
afoul - give dispatcher a cross street close to where you are, and if possible
give a name of a local business nearby. e.g.: Donato's on First & High.
4. Call the neighbors to inform them of the situation.
A. There is a suspicious person hanging out in the alley at the rear of 1234 Michigan Avenue. He is about 14 years old, 5' 5" and has bleached blond, very short hair that is dark at the roots. He is wearing a white shirt and jeans. He has cans of spray paint. Please send a patrol car to check it out. My name is XXXXXXX and my telephone number is XXX-XXXX.
B. If you do not know where you are when you see something suspicious or afoul – give dispatcher a cross street close to where you are, and if possible give a name of a local business nearby. e.g.: Donato’s on First & High.
C. You are driving down the alley one evening and see a person who does not live the boundaries of our Block Watch in the shadows near a garage. The quick thinking person you are, you reach for your cell phone and call 645-4545. The dispatcher asks you to state the nature of your call, you tell him:
“There is a suspicious person hanging out in the alley at the rear of 123 West Seventh Avenue. Please send a patrol car to check it out. My name is XXXXXXXXX and my telephone number is XXX-XXXX.”
You answer any other questions the dispatcher may have, and then hang up.
