Citizens Improvement League

"New Year, New Focus"

Nov 19, 2005

A new year and a new beginning. This is the focus of The Citizen's Improvement League of Wimauma, Florida Inc. A neighborhood organization since the 1960?’s.
After nearly 3 years of questionable leadership and dwindling membership, the Citizen's Improvement League is back and better than ever! At a special meeting held in July, the few remaining members of Wimauma's Citizen's
Improvement League cited "We must get on track" and then proceeded to appoint a strong new leadership team. Five Officers were elected to begin serving the community effective August 1, 2005. The new leadership team quickly
pointed out that ?“being on track is good?”, but as everyone knows, "you'll get run over if you just sit there". There is a tremendous amount of work to be done and the League is pushing forward despite back-taxes and a lapse in corporate filings.

?“One Community, One Vision?”
The Improvement League members announce they have
officially adopted a slogan. By general consensus, on November 7, 2005, the slogan
adopted is "One Community, One Vision." The League members feel this slogan significantly captures the spirit of the organization. The 2005-2006 term will induce an organized grass roots effort to embrace revitalization in the town of Wimauma. The League will also focus on efforts to unite the community and merge ethnic and
minority special interests. The overall goal will be to empower residents to take the steps necessary to improve the quality of life for all Wimauma residents.

League Goals and Mission Statement
Although a formal Mission Statement has yet to be
written, "Part A" of the League's goal will be to identify, define, and educate the residents on the vast array of community resources and area programs. For months, representatives of the League and other volunteers have been canvassing the community taking inventory of the current resources and community partners in Wimauma and surrounding areas. The League intends to have a pulse on the Social Service and Volunteer Infrastructure in Wimauma and be poised to strenuously advocate those services to the community at large.
"Part B" of the League's mission will be self-promotion as the preeminent citizen-directed "information hub" for Wimauma residents. Through concentrated cooperative
efforts with community partners we will be able to
promptly identify community problems and unmet needs and work confidently with county leaders to resolve important issues. Conversely, the League will be the premier authority on
"All things good in Wimauma"
through communication via newsletters, monthly meetings, and the Neighborhood Link Web Site.

P.O.W.E.R.
People of Wimauma Embracing Revitalization
At this time, Wimauma residents are demanding a
temperate balance between growth & development and
the "living with nature" way of life.
The Improvement League has members who are
dedicated to championing this cause but, what is needed is a pipeline of advocates. With simply no place left to build, massive development is on our heels as developers have Wimauma in their sights. The prudent thing to do now, is to become involved in the plans that will shape Wimauma's future for the next 2 decades and embrace the positive outcomes. Please join
the Wimauma Citizen's Improvement League today!
We are "People Of Wimauma, Embracing Revitalization.?”
With volunteer advocates, P.O.W.E.R. can provide
leadership to One Community with One Vision.
