LEAP Program

Notice from the City's Auditor's Office re: Low-Income Energy Assistance.

Dear Friend:
Increases in the cost of natural gas and electricity have hit everyone hard
this winter, particularly those on fixed or limited incomes. We all can
appreciate any help that is available. In his efforts to continue to
further assist the citizens of Denver, Don Mares would like to tell you
about the Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP).

Many of the individuals who qualify do not participate in this program.
Most of the eligible participants are simply unaware of LEAP. LEAP helps
needy Coloradans pay their winter utility bills. You may qualify if:

-Your family household income falls within 150% of the federal poverty
level guidelines;
-You pay home heating costs to an energy provider or as part of your rent;
-Your assets are not greater than $3,000, and
-You are a permanent and legal resident of the United States and Colorado.

Applications are accepted from November 1 through April 30. Funds are
provided by the federal government and the Colorado Energy Assistance
Foundation (CEAF), a non-profit organization. Denver residents must submit
an application to the East Food Stamp Office, 2855 Tremont Place. They may
be contacted by phone at 303-295-0057. Applications may be obtained through
the East Food Stamp Office and the Auditor's Office.
