Volunteers Needed to Help Control Crime
Are you ready for a change in your neighborhood? Do you want to do something more than just complain about the crime, prostitution and drug activity that plaques your neighborhood? Then this is your chance!
Currently there are over 50 neighborhoods in OKC with active Volunteer Crime Patrol units. Westlawn Gardens (near Reno and Villa) started their patrol unit approximately 3 years ago and have seen a 60% drop in reported crimes during that time period. Classen-Ten-Penn can also see a significant drop in vandalism, graffiti, drug trafficking and street prostitution by instituting a crime patrol program.
Volunteer Crime Patrollers volunteer 2 to 4 hours a month, in 2 hour shifts. They patrol the neighborhood in pairs from the safety of their cars and use cell phones to report any suspicious or unusual behavior to police. Patrollers act as the eyes and ears of the police department while working closely with law enforcement to protect and improve the quality of life in your neighborhood.
Crime patrolling can be fun! All it takes is to attend the training and then commit to at least one two hour shift every month. That is not much to ask for a safer and cleaner neighborhood for us all! Together we can make a difference in this neighborhood.
The Oklahoma City Police Department and Neighborhood Alliance will host a free training just for members of the Classen-Ten-Penn neighborhood.
We must have at least 30 people from our neighborhood sign up to be patrollers before the OKC Police Department can sanction our activity. Please help us reach that number by coming to this valuable training:
Saturday, September 17th @ 10:00am
at the Penn Ave. Methodist Church (SE corner /13th & Penn )
This interesting and unique training will equip you to be a Certified Volunteer Crime Patroller for this neighborhood. At the least, it will empower you to take control of your personal safety and surroundings. Grab a buddy, or come alone and make a HUGE difference!
