Just recently had laminate flooring installed throughout my 2nd floor unit. VERY happy with it and my downstairs neighbor reports virtually no increased noise as a result. ( My unit had the original carpet and underlayment installed when it was built and the underlayment with the original carpet was as thin and worn as paper! ) If any other top floor unit owners are considering this, please send me a message and I'm happy to give you the name of the company I went through. They used a special type of underlayment which dampens virtually all noise.
