Columbia Grounds Welcomes Columbia Park Residents

Feb 16, 2004

On January 29th, the Columbia Grounds Coffee Shop & Deli, located at 3301 Central Avenue, will mark six months of serving the people of Northeast Minneapolis, and, of course, Columbia Park. Seeking a business that the family could all take part in, Northeast residents Jim and Sherry Tanberg, along with son Jason and daughter Liz, purchased the long-established Columbia Gardens and the adjoining building two growing seasons ago, and opened for business this past July. Based on customer input, Columbia Grounds opens at 6:00 a.m. Monday through Friday, at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, and at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday. Daily breakfasts are served and feature omelets, breakfast sandwiches and the soon-to-be-famous "breakfast burrito." Once breakfast has been served, a complete and tasty lunch menu is available. Always ready is a cup of the very finest coffee. Columbia Grounds features music several times a week, including an "open mic" on Wednesdays that has brought out many area musicians and poets. Sundays, beginning at 10 a.m., breakfast eaters, coffee drinkers and newspaper readers are all treated to an acoustic/bluegrass jam that is nothing short of fabulous. The Tanberg family is very proud of the water gardens, waterfalls and outdoor seating they installed to tie the garden center and coffee shop together. The coffee shop also displays the work of local artists with an emphasis on Northeast artists. Columbia Grounds hopes to support the residents of Columbia Park. Watch the newsletter for future coupons and discounts, as well as gardening tips from Columbia Grounds. Thank you.
