Crestwood Neighborhood

A Message From Our President

Nov 30, 2004

When Richard and I first moved to Crestwood, something happened that enforced my idea of what this neighborhood is about. Miriam Stahlsworth brought us a warm loaf of bread and we three sat talking on our front steps as we ate it. I've lived in many houses in many states over the years, but this was the first time anyone had taken the time to welcome me and my family in such a wonderful way. Then, in midsummer, a group of neighbors got together to fight the post office to keep it from putting up mailboxes at the curbs. Later in the summer, there was a block party.

To all of my neighbors, I want to say, thank you for being here in Crestwood, getting to know your neighbors, taking pride in your yards and gardens, loving the unique architecture of your homes, and considering Crestwood a worthy place for you and your families to live. These things represent a true neighborhood with a strong sense of community - the kind of community I've always wanted to belong to.

This is my first year as President of C N A. The board met to discuss what we want to present as this year's agenda and goals at the general meeting in November. These things include the home tour, historic preservation, getting more of our membership involved with the association, traffic calming, security, and events, among other things.

We've put some of these on the new membership application with check boxes next to them. If you are not a member, and would like to be, the cost is only $12 a year. Please bring your application and your check to themeeting and check the boxes showing us the areas you are most interested in. If you can't make the meeting, please mail it to the PO Box on the application.

If you are already a member, please fill out the application and bring it to the meeting on November 9.
I have tried to finish this in several ways - all of them sound hokey: working together, accomplishing our goals, improving our neighborhood, preserving Crestwood for the future. But, hokey or not, this is what we are doing when we volunteer for the neighborhood association. See you at the general meeting, November 9, 7 pm, at the Crestwood Baptist Church.
