The Crossroads Neighborhood Association Board met on 11-22-05 with Steve Plice, consultant for the Catholic Diocese, ( and former Azalea N. A. President), to discuss traffic calming and the Sembler Company's building proposal for the land bordering on 9th Avenue and 66th Street North. There have been changes suggested by both the Diocese and Sembler, which will be presented to us at our next Neighborhood meeting December 11th.
Jim Mason, our president, asked for ideas, suggestions, and any input on how we can better protect our neighborhood from the expansion along 66th Street North. Speeding vehicles throughout our streets was one concern, and he was asked to meet with the Sembler Co. to see if they were willing to undertake the cost of islands, stop signs, and decorative signage. If they agree, we should see them in place quicker than if we have to go through the city and wait for budgeting. If you have any suggestions for Jim, please call him or come to our next meeting.
Concerns about the building proposal included noise, density, traffic entering and exiting on 66th Street and on 9th Avenue, type of retail stores, no bars, type of townhouses (rental vs. owned), price range, amenities to attract buyers, adequate parking, no future super-stores, aesthetics, greenspace, family friendly businesses, trees, lighting, ponds, residents on 9th Avenue getting to their homes, extra traffic, adequate handicap parking and facilities, types of restaurants, no fast food drive-ins, etc. All these questions will be addressed.
Attending the meeting were Jim Mason, Mimi Mason, Michael Perwien, Marie Sequira, Phil Sachs, Edward Murawski, Steve Plice, and Dottie Tutt-Hutchinson.
