Freundly Notes:
Those of you who did not get to the March Membership Meeting missed a great opportunity to hear from the candidates for District 9 in our City Council race. All five candidates were present and gave an account of their ideas and concerns about the City. After the presentations, there was a question and answer session. We appreciate each candidates appearance.
For our April Meeting, Jerry Mack, our Clean Up/Beautification Chairman, is getting a person from the Bexar County Gardeners to discuss landscaping our lawns, with an emphasis on draught resistant matters. Speaking of Jerry, we all owe him a big debt in getting our Island between Trafalgar and Colwyn Pass so beautifully landscaped. Several residents helped in planting the shrubs and flowers and we thank each of you also. Jerry does have a few more plants to add to the area, and there is always a need to just maintain all of the Islands. So give Jerry a call if you can help. We'd like to give a big "Thank you" to Diana and Charles Dorion of 723 Colwyn Pass, as they have agreed to let us use their water in order to get the plants "going" at first. After the plants are established, they should need very little watering. If there is a need for a lot of water, then we need to pay the Doirons for their water we use.
Please plan to come to our April Membership Meeting. We will elect a Nominating Committee to find candidates for three places on the Board of Directors, as Vince Chacon, Linda Ireland and Tony Reyna will be leaving the Board. The Nominating Committee will also look for possible Officer candidates, though technically the Board elects the Officers, so the Officers will not be official until the new Board meets and elects them within two weeks of our May Membership Meeting.
The May Membership Meeting will be on May 22, 7:00 p.m., and it will be a "Pot Luck" Dinner at the Freunds, 207 Coronet Lane. Meat, drinks, bread, paper cups and plates, and plastic ware will be furnished. Each family should bring a dish to feed several people. We will elect the three new Board members at that time. We hope you will make your plans to join your neighbors for a fun time.
CHIP ?–
As mentioned in the last newsletter, several members of the current Board are forming a new committee, Crown Hill Improvement Program, whose purpose is to develop a plan to determine the needs of our neighborhood as to streets, curbs, drainage, etc. and discuss these matters with the necessary parties in the City. Hopefully in this way, we can develop a comprehensive way to better maintain and refurbish our infrastructure.
The Future of Our Association ?—
In April we elect a nominating committee to get three candidates for the Board of Directors and to suggest Officers to the new Board. Members have been asked to contact an Officer or Director if they are willing to serve on the Nominating Committee, the Board or as an Officer. So far no volunteer names have been received. All of the Officers retire from office May 31, as do Vince Chacon, Linda Ireland and Tony Reyna from the Board. Each of you needs to consider this, because this is your Association; and if no one will serve, then there will be no Association. Those of you who have been residents for a while know of the many important items that have come up where the Association has had a major say in what happens: Closing the streets, changing TXDOT's plan for road construction, keeping Mr. Lewis from involving our neighborhood in his plans for construction on his property East of Jones-Maltsberger, keeping the school property and not selling to Mr Lewis, construction of speed humps on Marquis, plans for the new use and construction for Robbins school and others. Our voices are greatly diluted when we don't have an Association to back up our needs and desires. Our neighborhood will be in line for street refurbishing in the near future, and we definitely need a voice in how that is done, as well as the refurbishing of our water mains, etc. Also, at the end of 2001, construction will begin on the McCullough link in the new Loop 410/Highway system. We all have lived through the Jones-Maltsberger connection, but the McCullough connections may be an even bigger headache. And we need to be able to go to the City, TXDOT and other organizations with our concerns. But this will only be accomplished if you and the other residents take an active role in CHPNA. Take the time to call one of the officials and say that you are willing to serve.
Don't Forget to Vote ?—
Don't forget to Vote for the Mayor and District 9 City Council Seat.
