Culebra Park Gets More Streets Paved in FY 2008

Jan 04, 2008

As you know, many of the streets in Culebra Park need to be repaved. We have been asking for funding to get our streets fixed the entire 6 years I've (Lulu Francois) have been President. Rosemary Perez, the previous CPNA President, asked the councilmen she worked with for funds to get our streets repaired. She was President for 6 years. That tells you how long we?’ve been asking for help in getting our streets repaved. Finally, someone is listening and helping us with our needs.

Councilwoman Elena Guajardo has fought for Culebra Park to finally get some of our streets repaved. In FY 2007, which started in October 2006, she was able to get funding for the following paving projects:

San Simeon - San Andreas to Laven (this is on hold because SAWS wants to put in new drainage on San Simeon first)
San Benito - San Andreas to El Centro
Santa Cruz - San Andreas to Laven
Benrus - Culebra to Hemphill
Fairburn - Grovehill to Ivanhoe

For FY 2008, which begins in October of this year, Councilwoman has provided us with additional funding to get our streets repaved. The streets that were selected are:

Laven - Culebra to Grovehill
Flint - Includes sidewalks and curves repaired
Culebra - Canterbury to Maiden
El Centro - Culebra to Hemphill
Grovehill - Chesterhill to Fairburn
San Benito - Laven to El Centro
Ivanhoe

There are other street projects that she approved for Culebra Park. One was a long awaited project which is currently under construction from Cannon to Benrus. The other is the Culebra Area Streets Project Phase 4. This project is going to repave Pettus from Culebra to Laven, and Broadview from Pettus to Hemphill. These projects will take time, so please be patient.

Don't forget about the funding she granted to Culebra Park so that we could get speed humps on El Centro and Laven. These speed humps had also been requested since Rosemary Perez was President. Councilwoman Guajardo just recently approved another set for Chesterhill.

Whoo!!! I'm tired of typing. There's a lot of good things planned for Culebra Park. Things that we've been waiting for a long time and thanks to Councilwoman Guajardo, we're finally getting what we deserve.
