Traffic Study Ballots In The Mail

Oct 29, 2003

Denniston Park Neighborhood Association has recently received the results of our second traffic study conducted by the City of Oklahoma City. Neighbors have likely received a ballot by this time that is asking them to vote yes or no on two changes to neighborhood stop signs.
Current changes included on the ballot are an addition of stop signs on Drexel Boulevard and Denniston Drive to make a 3-way stop and the addition of east-west stop signs at NW 25th and Independence to make this a 4-way stop.
The Traffic Management Division of the City of OKC will add up the ballots after July 7th. If the majority of property owners approve of the changes, then the proposal goes to the Traffic Commission for approval. If approved there, the next step is installation of new stop signs.
Last year a DPNA Traffic Committee was started to address traffic flow in the neighborhood. A traffic study was conducted throughout the neighborhood by the City. Intersections of high traffic were identified and a ballot was mailed out to property owners. Changes made were a 3-way stop at NW 26th and Drexel, a 4-way stop at NW 27th and Drexel, a 4-way stop at NW 25th and Land, north/south stop signs at NW 25th and Independence, a 4-way stop at NW 27th and Independence and a 4-way stop at NW 26th and Woodward. The purpose of addressing traffic issues is to detour excess traffic off our neighborhood streets back to NW 23rd and to May Avenue.
