Since late 1999, meetings have been held discussing projects and plans to improve the NW 23rd Street Corridor from Villa to I-44.
Susan Johnston has been representing Denniston Park Neighborhood at these meetings since they started to meet.
In December 2000, OKC citizens voted for a 2000 Bond Issue which included a StreetScape Project from I-44 to Villa on NW 23rd Street. A new left turn light at NW 23rd and Drexel, new street paving, sidewalks, period lighting, trash containers at the bus stops, and brick pavers at May Avenue and NW 23rd, Drexel and NW 23rd and Woodward and NW 23rd will all be installed through this bond issue.
Since fall 2002, meetings have been held to discuss the future development of NW 23rd Street. A new marketing study is soon to take place to see what neighborhoods and businesses along the corridor would like to see come to the NW 23rd Street business district.
A name will be given to the designated area and will become part of the marketing strategy for the district. The most popular name is the ?“Olde Trolley District?”.
Eventually, signage will be at entrances into neighborhoods, and at each of the corridor entrances to showcase the district.
