This kicks off the first issue of what will hopefully be a regularly seen publication in your mailbox.
The Dobbins Southeast Block watch was started as a way to enhance the safety of our neighborhood. A Block watch brings residents, knowledge, resources and energy together to form a partnership against crime. A Block watch encourages residents to join together and be aware of activities around them in their daily lives. Members look out for neighbors and their property, and report suspicious activities to law enforcement. It also provides an opportunity for us to get to know each other as neighbors and tries to recapture the era in America when neighbors looked out for each other, could rely on each other, knew their neighbors names and the names of all the children in the neighborhood. We live in a time when its hard to stop long enough to smell the roses, much less take the time and effort needed to start a new friendship.
This newsletter is an extension of the block watch?’s attempt to enhance the quality of life in our small part of the city of Phoenix. It was created in the hopes of getting to know more about each other and as a way to let everyone know what is going on in our community. It is an open forum for questions, opinions, news, events, notices and neighborhood information.
As a first issue, comments are welcome as to what else would be useful in issues to come. If anyone wants to volunteer to add an article on a village planning meeting, a tested recipe, a notice of garage sale or babysitting service, neighborhood youth event participation, a short introduction about themselves or their family, a funny story or joke, a birth announcement, etc., feel free to let me know.
The Block watch is composed of citizens like you. The newsletter is designed to serve your right to know what is going on in your immediate and extended neighborhood. Being a good block watch member is nothing more than being a good neighbor. We need to look out for each other, to celebrate each other?’s successes and help each other in time of need.
I encourage all of you to actively participate. Be a part of a proven solution in keeping our neighborhood a nice place to live!
