Neighborhood Watch Block Captains

Help Protect Your Home and Quality of Life

Block Captains (aka Neighborhood Advocates) are neighbors who act as representatives for their block or apartment complex. This role can be shared between 2 or more neighbors. The representative's role is to be the contact person for their immediate neighbors. We need a network of Block Captains who will initiate and maintain Neighborhood Watch or Crime Free Multi-Housing programs in their areas.

Block Captain Resource Handbook

The Block Captain Resource Handbook provides neighbors with the means to help remedy problems that contribute to blight in our neighborhood. Problems such as properties that are not up to code, curbside debris, problem tenants, suspicious persons/activities, suspected drug dealing and/or prostitution, graffiti, barking dogs, etc. All these things have an adverse affect on the quality of life for all residents.

Currently, other neighborhoods are actively tackling these quality of life issues. When authorities come down hard on criminal activity in one area in response to the complaints of concerned residents, the problems often migrate to another area. We need to promote an environment that is UNINVITING to anyone who may want to bring their problems to our neighborhood. We need to be pro-active to ensure that we keep those problems at bay. When unscrupulous people are looking for a place to live where they feel comfortable that they will be left alone to carry out their illegal acts, they will not want to move to a neighborhood that is well maintained and reflects a sense of community where neighbors are watching out for one another.

As we all get into the habit of notifying the appropriate City departments of chronic violations, together we WILL prevent further deterioration in our neighborhood and will, in fact, create the safe, friendly and clean neighborhood we all want to live in.

That being said, we encourage Block Captains to show their appreciation to their neighbors and property owners who are good neighbors and assets to the neighborhood.
