Getting Started

Here is some information on how to form a Neighborhood Watch on your street.

Contact Officer Corina Chavez (Crime Prevention Officer, Operations Division Midtown). Her number is 791-4499 Ext. 1790. She will provide you with all the information you need to plan the initial meeting.

You will need to arrange for a time and place to hold your initial meeting. The meetings usually take place in a neighbor's home.

Officer Chavez will provide you with brochures to distribute to your neighbors inviting them to the meeting.

(Note: Officer Chavez is often booked far in advance, so please call her ASAP to arrange for a meeting for your street.)

Benefits

Following are a few of the many benefits derived from having an active Neighborhood Watch on your street.

1. Meeting neighbors who also want to live in a crime-free neighborhood, and will help to achieve that goal.

2. A Neighborhood Watch sign is installed on your street.

3. The Neighborhood Watch contact person receives "WatchWord" - a monthly publication for the purpose of education and information for crime reduction. (This can be shared with the neighbors, but the TPD budget does not allow for the cost of mailing to all neighbors.)

4. Once a Neighborhood Watch is established on your street, you can create a telephone tree to help keep neighbors informed of any problems within the neighborhood.
