Due to budget cuts, leaf collection in December and January has been cancelled. And, as it stands now, Metro will not be coming by to pick up any leaves in East Hill until July. But, if you?’ve got bags of leaves sitting around, you won?’t want to wait that long to get rid of them. Not only are they unsightly, but they are a perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes.
One way to solve this problem is to load up your bags of leaves and take them to the Bordeaux Mulch Facility at 1400 County Hospital Rd. The Mulch Facility is open Tuesday through Saturday from 7am to 4pm and accepts untreated wood, leaves, and brush.
But an even easier solution is to ask the non-profit organization Earth Matters Tennessee to come by and pick them up. Earth Matters is a local non-profit organization that promotes gardening and composting. For a small donation they will come get your leaves and go turn them into compost.
We?’ve made arrangements with Earth Matters for a neighborhood leaf pick-up on January 21st (our next Curby recycling day). To participate in this pick-up, put your bags of leaves out next to the street and call Earth Matters at 252-6953 to give them your address. Don?’t forget to tell them you live in East Hill.
The suggested donation for leaf pick-up is $1/bag. A check made out to ?“Earth Matters?” can be left in an envelope taped to your front door.
