Dear Member: January 11, 2002
Happy New Year. As the year turns the ESIA Board is working on the following issues:
32nd/N Street. Proposed removal and replacement of a house for creation of a parking lot
38th/Folsom. Potential demolition of the old Interfaith Building
Alhambra and C Street. Proposed Yancey storage facility expansion
928 45th Street. Proposed garage conversion for guesthouse.
65th/Folsom. 65th Street Transit Village
Board members will also be meeting with Mercy Hospital to discuss recently announced renovation and building plans, and consider what can be done to alleviate the parking problems Mercy creates. We are also working with the City regarding McKinley Park and monitoring the St. Francis School expansion proposal.
This will be our 25th year of recognizing the people, places or activities that have both positive and negative impacts on East Sacramento with our Orchid and Onion Awards. However, we have re-named the Orchid Award the Sidney Pope Memorial Award to recognize Sidney?’s unique and significant contributions to East Sacramento and the Association. A permanent Sidney Pope Memorial Award plaque will be placed in the East Sacramento Room to honor Sidney and each year?’s recipient. We are asking the general membership for this year?’s nominations. The Association board will then narrow the nominations for the ballot for a final vote this spring. For your information I have enclosed a short history of the Association for our newer members and a list of previous award recipients.
Please take the time to nominate as many people, places and activities that you believe deserve recognition. You must include the specific address of the nomination and a couple of sentences explaining why you are making the nomination. Return your nominations with your dues or separately no later than March 1.
I have also enclosed a bill for your 2002 dues. The dues remain unchanged at $10.
Sincerely,
Dick Ratliff, President
