The May 28th Watch meeting was very well attended. Guests were the evening shift of TPD Squad 205 and Major John Bennett. Thank you, gentlemen, for stopping in to meet with us, as well as for your hard work and dedication.
Big thing to remember is: KEEP YOUR DOORS, WINDOWS & CARS LOCKED and VALUABLES OUT OF SIGHT! You get tired of reading that bit of advice, don't you? Yet it so very important. The majority of crimes involving entering buildings or motor vehicles are crimes of OPPORTNITY: if you provide the opportunity - they'll take advantage of it. Chances are that if you don't provide the opportunity, they'll pass by your property and look elsewhere for an easier job. Like someone who left their car unlocked.
Next big thing is : SEE AND BE SEEN !!!
Seeing who is around, while being seen out in your yard, especially at irregular intervals, is a great deterrent to crime. Often, if they think they stand a chance of being seen, they'll pass on the opportunity. Sit outside and read the newspaper. Step out the front door sporadically for a smoke. Sweep that front walkway every day (just not at the same time every day!-- don't let 'em get used to your schedule.) BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS. Take a look out from behind the curtains periodically to see what's - or who's - out there. And if it looks suspicious -- or like it COULD be suspicious -- call 231-6130 to have TPD drive by for a look-see.
Remember -- school is out, and bored juveniles can get into trouble. So keep your eyes peeled.
Have a great summer!
