Eagle Eyes (Forest Hills Grid 18)

WOW! Hard to believe school starts back in just 25 days (Tuesday, Aug. 25th)! Kids, if you think summertime flies NOW ------ just wait until you have your own kids!

We still don't have a resolution to the traffic issues involving the schools. One person who contacted the mayor's office via email regarding Linebaugh's crosswalk (REMEMBER? We're trying to get the city to install the flashing lights there -- you can help by emailing the mayor!) got a phone call from the department that handles the traffic lights. The guy from traffic planning told him that the crossing guard says there is no problem with people running that crosswalk light, and no speeding problems. (You know what? Over the summer, the summer crossing guard might not have seen a problem; maybe the problem starts with school being back in session and increased traffic in general. But during the school year the problem is bad.)Somehow, we need to help them understand how bad it really is.

With regard to the traffic on Ola in front of the school, we need to watch carefully and call TPD for assistance. People actually park their cars in the middle of Ola, blocking traffic, and walk their kids into the building, drive down the sidewalk, speed, drive carelessly . . . it's not a good situation.

Grid 10 -- Linebaugh Estates -- is holding their next NHW meeting on TUESDAY, AUGUST 11th @ 7pm @ Forest Hills Rec. Center on 109th. All are welcome to join them -- several of us from this grid already attend their meetings regularly. They meet inside the building in the multi-purpose room. Their meetings are usually pretty informative, and they have good participation. I'm not positive, but I believe QUAD will be in attendance; so bring your questions and join in the discussions.

With school returning to session, we will have a lot of visitors to the neighborhood, especially to the east side of Chamberlain along Ola, as folks park for practice, games, or just to pick up their kids at 2:55 dismissal. PLEASE -- LET'S SHOW SOME GOOD OLD-FASHIONED PRIDE in our neighborhood by keeping the right-of-ways picked up. I know we might be short of $ for lawn-mowing gasoline, but it costs NOTHING to pick up litter. If there's no litter there, folks won't be tempted to add to it. And remember not to place trash along the street, behind those privacy fences, unless it is going to be picked up within the week. Building materials (such as bricks), electronics, mattresses will not be picked up by the waste management services unless you arrange a special pick-up, so PLEASE DON'T PLACE THEM THERE.

Don't assume that those suspicious cars & people you see are affiliated with school starting back in session. IF YOU SEE SUSPICIOUS PEOPLE OR VEHICLES AROUND CALL 231-613O TO HAVE TPD CHECK IT OUT.
