A few words from ENA President-Dennis Murphy
It?¡?¦s hard to believe that summer is nearly here and the year just begun is about half over. So that?¡?¦s why the ENA officers wanted to have a summer get together and to bring you up to date on happenings in the neighborhood.
Projects under way are:
A committee is working on securing a City matching grant for signage and beautification of the median on Easthaven. Members of the committee are Deanna Long, Carol Cole and Peggy Thompson. In the meantime the median continues to be a challenge as to its upkeep. Much good and hard work was put into it in the past but as with all things continuing effort needs to be expended in keeping it clean and weeded. Many folks use it as a place for their dogs to relieve themselves and I think you would all agree folks should bag it and remove it! We need your help in keeping this area clean and weed less.
Some months ago a hit and run driver, we think, knocked down the sign and brickwork. If you have suggestions as to how we can temporarily ?¡?§fix it?¡?¨-please let us know. Any monies expended by us prior to the matching grant are not eligible for reimbursement in the grant. We need volunteers to give one hour per month in keeping the median clean and tidy?¡Xthanks call Dennis-number below.
The officers are in the process of revising the By Laws to bring them up to date. The last revision was several years ago and the current By- Laws are not flexible enough to meet our current challenges. Dues paying members ($10/household) will be able to vote on the revisions at the fall general meeting. We will let you know the date. We will also need nominations for the voting of officers in the upcoming year. Please consider stepping up with either a nomination or volunteering to be nominated.
The state of Easthaven:
We are fortunate to live in a very nice neighborhood-it is basically neat and clean with wonderful and friendly neighbors. We are convenient to many amenities in Charlotte-Churches, grocery stores; Eastland Mall, the public library, city parks, the YMCA and we are close to uptown with good transportation. Our yards are large which is a positive when selling. It appears the drainage work has been completed and we can finally get to cleaning up the dust raised. Our homes show that we take pride in our neighborhood and our own property.
In order for us to keep the pleasant place we have and to protect our investments in our homes we all need to be aware of those things that add to value and those things that subtract. A clean and neat neighborhood benefits all stakeholders-the homeowners. If the neighborhood looks good and attractive to potential buyers then we all gain by having our property values increase and making our homes easier to sell when the time ultimately comes. The converse is equally true. Trash and junk in yards, cars obviously not used and parked in side yards and front lawns etc only portend bad news for all of us down the road. They encourage rats and vermin and ultimately result in endangered communities, resulting in lowered property values. It will hurt in the pocket book. It will be harder to sell ?¡Vor get an equity loan- not to mention the disrespect shown to other stakeholders in the neighborhood.
Some time last year, white paint was spilled on the pavements of Greywood and Twin Oaks Pl. Those responsible have not acknowledged or offered to clean up the unsightly mess. Many neighbors have asked if there is a way to remove the paint form the street. If you have suggestions please let us know.
We want to thank Leo Long for his continued willingness over the years to gladly provide us with his culinary skills. Leo has a catering business and lives on Easthaven Drive with Deanna his wife and 2 great Danes. Thanks Leo!
In closing thank you for your support and interest and especially for your financial support. We need your ideas and your willingness to step forward and take ownership in keeping Easthaven the great place it is to live. On behalf of the other officers we wish you a happy and healthy summer!
Easthaven Neighborhood Association Summer Social!!!!!
The officers of the ENA are pleased to announce that the association will be sponsoring a social gathering on the afternoon of Sunday, June 27 in the cul de sac of Easthaven Boulevard, which is near Helmdale. The event is scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM and last to at least 7:00 PM and is open to all residents of the Easthaven neighborhood. We will be serving Barbecue and several types of fixings, which will be prepared by long time Easthaven resident, Leo Long. Those attending are encouraged to bring a dessert to share with everyone but it is not mandatory. Come out and meet your neighbors and find out how you can get involved to make our neighborhood a truly wonderful place to live-for all of us. For further information, please feel free to contact ENA President Dennis Murphy or any of the other officers.
Also, our congratulations to Louise Maner of Easthaven Dr., whose grand-daughter graduated from UNCC on May 15th. She's completed her studies in Costa Rica and Spain and plans to teach English as a second language in Japan or Spain.
