Eastside Neighborhood Notes 2-2003
Looking for interested people to Chair the:
?· May Steering Committee & June General Meeting
?· July Steering Committee & August General Meeting
?· September Steering Committee & October General meeting
?· November Steering Committee & December Potluck meeting

We need your participation! Let?’s get everyone involved this year, we have so many opportunities to have fun, make changes, improve the neighborhood in general and partner in many city events.

City Councilwoman Lisa Bist has stated she will obtain trashcans for the Bike Trail in Eastside. Marlene was able to secure this agreement from Lisa, thank you Marlene.

We have an opportunity to participate in the Latino awareness fair of Casa Bonita again, on Saturday March 29, 2003. This is a chance to raise funds for the Eastside Association. We last participated in August of 2002 and raised over a one hundred dollars selling barbecued corn. We need volunteers to help with the preparation, set-up, selling, and clean up. Roman Reyna chairman of Casa Bonita, and Federal Empowerment Zone Chairperson, is hosting the event. He plans to have Jaime Esclante, and possibly Edward James Olmos who played Jaime in the movie Stand and Deliver at the event.

We have an opportunity in May to do a 24-hour turn around bus trip to the State Line at Harrah?’s for FREE! We need a minimum of 40 people to get the free rate ?– so let?’s start signing up! Thanks for checking out these details Isabel!

It is very important that everyone who can attend the March 27th (6:30-(9pm) Com-Link Meeting at the Police Community Room. Wonderful and exciting changes regarding our street safety and vehicles will be discussed before the proposal is taken to the City council for a vote. So be there to be counted and have your voice heard!

The Community Development Council will become the lead agency for the Weed and Seed Sites in Santa Ana. Parks and Recreation has been hit by the state budget cuts. This move will provide potential benefits of partnership with the Federal Empowerment Zone activities, as they are also under the Community Development Council. They have not yet decided on a date for the COMBINED Eastside, Madison Park, and Delhi Neighborhood cleanup. Check to the website (Neighborhoodlink.com, then enter 92701) for more info on this, and be sure to come to the neighborhood meetings.

Any High school students that need community service hours out there? Please contact me regarding opportunities. Mary Bloom-Ramos Home 543-0177 - Work 667-8174

What?’s new with you this year? Come and share on Thursday February 13th!
