A new service now in El Cerrito Heights, San Diego Neighborhood Housing Services, can help get tenants into their own homes. San Diego NHS is a non-profit, community-based organization and is a partnership of residents, business leaders and government officials dedicated to educating homebuyers, creating homeowners, improving the housing stock and developing leaders to benefit the community. In the belief that home ownership helps to stabilize both families and communities, San Diego NHS helps to arrange flexible low-interest loans, provides home buyer education, works to revitalize neighborhoods, and sponsors community building events.
San Diego NHS achieves its goals through a number of programs. The Home Ownership Opportunity Program (HOOP), helps make ownership obtainable for low-to-moderate income families. NHS offers 3%-5% home-improvement loans to help residents improve their home and enhance its value. Classes such as Free Home Buyer Education helps familiarize potential home buyers with the process of buying a home. This class covers such topics as credit & budgeting, financing, insurance, home improvement, and home maintenance. With the purpose of helping to revitalize neighborhoods, NHS purchases vacant, dilapidated properties, then renovates and resells the properties at reasonable prices. In addition, NHS holds events such as FaceLift and Project Clean to enhance the appearance and livability of communities.
San Diego NHS is stationed at the Old Fire Station #10 Community Service Center, 4704 College Avenue (next to the College Heights Branch Library). We welcome the opportunity to serve you. Please contact us at (619) 229-9895.
