The holiday season is here and the City of Tucson Environmental Services Department would like to encourage residents to reduce, reuse and recycle. Between Thanksgiving Day and the New Year??fs Day Holiday, Americans generate 25% more trash than at other times of the year. Discarded items include holiday wrap, cards and ribbon, not to mention the enormous quantity of cans, bottles and plastic containers tossed after holiday celebrations. Environmental Services offers these tips for residents who want to ??gDo More Blue.??h Many items used during the holidays can be recycled including most greeting cards and wrapping paper (exceptions noted below), and some packaging materials. Please DO recycle:
??œ greeting cards and wrapping paper (unless they have metallic,
glitter, plastic or other nonpaper coatings)
??œ paperboard boxes that clothing or shoes might come in
??œ fiberboard packing materials (like egg cartons)
??œ cardboard
??œ plastic bottles and jugs
??œ glass food and beverage containers
Please DO NOT recycle:
??œ plastic packaging, toys, etc.; the only recyclable plastics are
#1 and #2 bottles and jugs
??œ wrapping paper with glitter or metallic finishes
??œ tissue paper
??œ ribbon, string or twine
??œ tinsel and ornaments
??œ anything with food residue, paper towels, napkins, plates, cups
