Elvira Neighborhood Association Meeting 8/19/13

Call to Order: President David Densmore called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.
Moment of Silence
TPD Report: Officer Wilfert & Captain Rodriguez were in attendance. All fairly quiet in the neighborhood. Officers are making daily traffic stops, being proactive.
Minutes: Motion to accept the July 15, 2013 minutes as written was made by Mikki Niemi and seconded by Oscar Tortosa Motion was passed by all present.
Treasurers Report: Treasurer Mikki Niemi reported $2064.79 in ENA bank account due to Barrio Nopal returning
money due to Elvira winning small claims actions. Motion to accept the treasurers report made by Tere Filkin and seconded by Oscar Tortosa. Motion was passed by all present.
New Business:
A) How to start a home business-guest speakers from the City of Tucson presented information on starting a home business. Russlyn Wells, Principal Planner from the Zoning office outlined what type of businesses can be operated from the home and some of the regulations on home businesses such as percentage of usage, signs and how many customers allowed.
Leyla Marquez, License Investigator spoke on how to obtain a City business license, costs. She also outlined how they follow up to make sure a business has a license and is following regulations.
Old Business:
A) The Night Out Against Crime was discussed and a sample of the invitation letter to be sent out was viewed. Hot dogs, hamburgers and pot luck. We will discuss in more detail at the next regular neighborhood meeting.
B) The by-laws were discussed. Mikki Niemi will bring copies to the Oct 2013 meeting so they may be read to the neighborhood members.
Call to the Audience:
A) Several members brought up the need for a neighborhood park so kids have a safe place to play. Several young residents were in attendance to express their desire for a skate park.
B) Dorothy will work on the next newsletter. Should have it out in time for the Night Out or before Christmas. Anyone with announcements to go in the newsletter, please let Dorothy know. Oscar announced he had a bicycle he'd like to donate for a Christmas give away.
C) Dave stated that someone from Animal Control contacted him and would like to attend a meeting as
a guest speaker. He will arrange a speaker for the Oct or Nov meeting.
D) Sam said all the construction in the alleys along Santa Clare and dirt piles by church is due to Southwest Gas is putting in gas lines in the neighborhood.
Adjournment:
Motion to adjourn was made by Oscar Tortosa and seconded by Tere Filkin. Motion was passed by all present. Meeting was adjourned at 8:20 p.m.
