Elvira Neighborhood Association Meeting 10/21/13

 

 

Officers Present:       David Densmore, President           

                                         Tere Filkin, Councilperson; Interim Secretary

                                          Oscar Tortosa, Sgt at Arms                       

Call to Order:  Dave announced the Council appointed Oscar Tortosa to the vacant position of Sgt of Arms. 

Moment of Silence was called for by Dave Densmore

TPD Report:  Officer Wilfert reported that crime is down in the neighborhood, although there were several DUI's in the area resulting in property damage. Officer Wilfert also discussed red tags and how they are enforced.  Residents reported junk cars, graffiti, and excessive noise on 12th Ave and semi-trucks in the neighborhood.

Minutes:  Motion to accept the Aug 19, 2013 minutes as written was made by Oscar Tortosa and seconded by Rachel Tortosa   Motion passed by all present.  There were no minutes from the Sept meeting as there were not enough officers or council members to hold an official meeting due to illness.

Treasurers Report:  report was not available as the treasurer was not present.  Councilmember's requested the report be available at every meeting whether or not the treasurer is able to attend the meeting;  the report must be sent to the President prior to the meeting if unable to attend so it can then be presented.

Old Business:      

A) The Night Out Against Crime Celebration report was given by Dave Densmore who stated it was very successful this year.  Several officials were present including Mayor Rothschild, Police Chief Villasenor, County Supervisor Richard Elias and Sunnyside School Board member Eva Dong.

New Business: 

A) Rachel Tortosa made a motion that the left over hamburgers from the Night Out be donated to Hope Church, Oscar Tortosa seconded the motion and all present agreed unanimously.

B) Dave brought up the discussion of what we'd like to do for a Christmas party. Oscar has a bicycle he'd like to donate for a raffle to someone in the Elvira Neighborhood.  Also discussed finding a family in the neighborhood to support for Christmas or make a couple of Christmas baskets to donate.  Rachel brought up the idea that perhaps we should also fix a Thanksgiving basket to donate to someone in the neighborhood.  Ernesto Badilla from Santa Clara School said the PIA at the school may be able to identify families for us to donate to in the neighborhood.

Call to the Audience:      

A) Oscar Tortosa suggested that we stick to the agenda and if anyone wants to visit and get to know one another  that it be done after the meeting closes.

B) A suggestion was made that everyone introduce themselves at the beginning of the meeting as we had 5 new neighborhood residents at this month's meeting.

C) A clean up was suggested for the walking path.  A group would need to meet early on a Saturday morning.  Suggestions were also made to contact Pima County Probation for cleanup.

Adjournment:

Motion to adjourn was made by Oscar Tortosa and seconded by Oscar Tortosa.   Motion was passed by all present.  Meeting was adjourned at 8:10 p.m.
