Elvira Neighborhood Association Meeting 3/17/14

Guest Speakers: Andrew Quigley, City of Tucson Environmental Services Director Teresa Williams, City of Tucson Code Enforcement Adm.
Call to Order: President David Densmore called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

TPD Report: There was no officer present.
Minutes: Motion to accept the Feb 17, 2014 minutes as written was made by Oscar Tortosa and seconded by Pam Figueroa. Motion passed by all present.
Treasurers Report: Treasurer Mikki Niemi was not present. No report.
Old Business: No old business to discuss
New Business:
A) Andrew Quigley, Director of Environmental Services gave us background info on what his department does besides garbage pickup. He outlined some of the services they offer, such as on call Bulk & Bush pick up for a flat fee of $55.00, offering paint for sale at $20.00 for a 20 gallon container at their Household Hazardous Waste location at Sweetwater & Roger Rd. Gave information on their 'My Waste' smart phone app. Also tips on trashcan placement for more efficient household pick up, including the 'bag & tie' program for trash. You can also call Environmental Services for shopping cart returns also. Ten dumpsters are available to neighborhoods for clean-up though out the year.
B) Teresa Williams, Administrator for Code Enforcement outlined what the dept does, such as handling private property violations, excessive yard sales, junk motor vehicles, etc. Complaints can be made anonymously. It can take time to see results if they have to take the property owner to court. I someone needs assistance on they will work with them. They get around 80 - 90 % compliance once a complaint has been made. For issues of parking violations on public streets, the Parkwise Dept. can be contacted.
Call to the Audience:
A) Christina Cruz spoke about the Pima Community College recall that is taking place due to accreditation complaints and questions concerning the PCC Board's integrity. This will be an issue on the Nov ballot if enough signatures can be collected.
B) Laura Dent, Ward One representative stated the Community Justice Board is looking for volunteers. She also announced that public hearings are being held to gather feedback concerning the possible SunTran fare increase. You can attend a public meeting at El Pueblo Center on 3/25/14 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. to voice your opinions.
President's report: Dave announced there will be a clean-up scheduled for the Walking Path from Santa Clara to 12th Ave on Saturday, March 29th at 6:00 a.m. He will contact Environmental Services for delivery of a dumpster. Anyone interested in helping, please sign the list at the back of the room. Dave will get bags for the clean-up.
