Pet Owners

May 11, 2000

If you missed the last meeting, you missed some very important information. I will try to do a short recap of what we learned. Bexar County contracts with the City of San Antonio for all of their animal control and code enforcement. Therefore, there are times that the laws of San Antonio prevail. Other than the requirements that everyone knows like licenses and rabies vaccination, there are many other laws that pet owners must abide by. Did you know that if you feed a stray dog or cat for more than 72 hours it legally becomes your animal (subjecting you to numerous possible fines). If your dog defecates in another person?’s yard or in a public place you must clean it up. Also, your dog is not allowed to bark or whine excessively, disturbing the peace of your neighborhood. A stray animal shall mean an animal roaming beyond the premises of the owner or keeper with no physical restraint. The animals can be impounded and the owners can be cited for violations of these laws. Citations lead to stiff fines and court appearances. Please abide by these laws and respect your neighbor?’s rights. Following are a few of the numbers that may be needed:
