In April of 2000 , We were invited to join the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) .
The NPCA is a watchdog group for the National Parks. NPCA has organized the Los Angeles Community Partners Programs. Like in several others cities across the country, a core group of community organizations met with National Park service staff to pursue mutual goals. The principal objective of the Los Angeles Community Partners are: to design strategies that will encourage park visitation by African Americans and connunities of color who historically have not used our National Park system. To also provide information and access to that same population regarding job opportunities with resource agencies; and to bring together non-profits, public interest, municipalities, natural resource agencies and community based organizations to establish collaborations that promote diversity in all park careers and park usage.
Active partners include:
National Parks Conservation Association
California State Parks
National Parks Channel Islands
NP Santa Monica Mountain National Recreation Area
Crenshaw/Dorsey R.E.S.C.U.E.
EXPO Neighbors
