JANUARY 2005 FNWC MINUTES

FAR NORTHWEST COALITION ( FNWC }

January 26, 2005

The Far Northwest Coalition (FNWC) met for its regularly scheduled meeting at the Northwest Library. Members present of the FNWC Board were John Best, John Murley, Kelly Thompson, Joe McCumber, Mike Brown and Rich Herner.

Best introduced Steve Soble, the new Community Liaison for this area of Columbus. His phone is 614-645-8621 and email slsoble@columbus.gov. He is working thru the Neighborhood Services Division of the Development Department and is currently covering areas 6 & 4.

Best updated the group on the Northwest Plan meeting from the previous week. The meeting apparently was well received with good attendance and a cross section of interested parties. He said it is a 13 month process to study and make recommendations for things like traffic, parks, street use, lighting and the like. The next meeting will be on Thursday, February 17, again at the Northwest Library.

Best then briefly discussed the Beth Tivkah project which had been mentioned in the Dublin suburban newspaper. This would put a worship center for Beth Tivkah essentially at the corner of Smoky Row and Snouffer Roads. He also informed the group that the NWCA meeting agenda item on the Linworth TND for the February meeting had again been scratched. However, that meeting, on February 2, would still discuss the proposed Wal-Mart for the Carriage Place center.

Meribah Mansfield, the Director of the Worthington Libraries then made a presentation to the group concerning the Library’s 2005-2008 strategic plan cycle. She noted that a new library is planned for the northeast area of town on Sancus Boulevard. The plan calls for each of the 3 library buildings then to focus on different functional areas. Jack Hedge then made a presentation concerning the conceptual designs of the new library and contemplated additions to the Northwest Library. The next meeting for the Library Plan group will be on February 3, 2005 at the Old Worthington Library.

Doug Hammon, Airport Director and Alan Harding then spoke to the group about the planned expansion at the OSU Don Scott Field. They discussed the reasons why the expansion is being considered and some of the objections that have been voiced in the community about the plan. They explained why the expansion was necessary for safety reasons of the aircraft and the surrounding areas, including the instrument landing system that is being requested. They also talked about the hangar and terminal improvements that are also part of the plan.

There being no further business to come before the FNWC, the meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,

Rich Herner
FNWC Secretary
