Far Northwest Coalition
Columbus, OH 43235
June 27, 2012
The Far Northwest Coalition (FNWC) met for its regularly scheduled meeting at the Northwest Library on Hard Road. The only members present were John Murley and Rich Herner. The group briefly discussed the I-270 Outerbelt work; specifically the Linworth Bridge over I-270 and the closing of Linworth Road at that point.
Tom Blackburn of 6790 Maybrook Street then made a presentation requesting a setback variance for a concrete slab on the north side of his home. He lives on a corner lot (corner of Maybrook and Decker) and wants to add the concrete pad (on the Decker side) to permanently park his boat. He had it parked on a gravel spot but the City of Columbus said it needed to be on concrete, which he intends to comply with, but he has a setback problem because of the corner lot situation. The building setback requirement is 25’ but he has that on two sides of his home because of the corner lot.
His variance request is for a 17’ setback on the Decker side, which will allow him to put in an 8’ wide concrete slab for the boat. He currently owns a 17’ boat and does not plan to increase boat size by getting a new one. He said he has contacted all of his neighbors within 200’ and has signed agreements from his four immediate neighbors who would be most affected by the setback variance. He said this should go to the Board of Zoning Adjustment on September 25.
Murley and Herner discussed the situation and neither had any problem with the variance request since Blackburn had agreement from his immediate neighbors. Murley explained that the FNWC did not have a quorum present but that he would contact the other members by email to see if they may have any issue with the request.
Murley also reported that there was talk of a Wal-Mart possibly going in the east side of Sawmill, where the old Kroger store used to be. He said there should be more information available by the next FNWC meeting. There being no other business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Rich Herner
