In 2001, more than 35,000 Minneapolis neighbors celebrated safety and community at more than 850 National Night Out (NNO) block parties. "Last year we had a great turnout and this year we're expecting it to be even better." said Lisa Klaphake, Minneapolis NNO Coordinator. She added, "If people want to close off their streets for their parties they need to get their neighbors signed up soon because the barricades go quickly."
"Get Out; Get Acquainted" is the 2002 Minneapolis NNO theme. The premise is that neighbors who know one another can work together more effectively to prevent crime and deal with other issues to improve the quality of life on their blocks for their families and themselves.
National Night Out in Minneapolis is coordinated by CCP/SAFE, a unit of the Minneapolis Police Department.
