The flood-mitigation project at 43rd St. and Park Ave. is set for construction beginning this summer. Past flooding problems in this area led to the design of two flood-mitigation basins between E. 43rd St. and E. 44th St., on both sides of Park Ave.
The first step in the project construction is the excavation of two basins, construction of storm pipes to connect the basins and installation of inlet and outlet pipes to and from the basins. This part of the project is expected to be completed in 2002. Landscaping work will be completed either this fall or the spring of 2003. This project also will include storm sewer upgrades in 2003 along Park Ave. between 44th St. and 46th St. and upgrades along 46th St. from Park Ave. to Chicago Ave.
Remember that construction equipment is extremely dangerous. Please do not go beyond the sidewalk and stay away from material piles and construction equipment. Your cooperation in reporting or preventing acts of vandalism will also be much appreciated.
Due to the complexity of the work involved, there will be some closure of sidewalks and streets. Hours of operation will be from 7 a.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Friday. Regrettably, there will be inconvenient times of considerable noise and dirt while this project is going on. We apologize for this and will do our best to accommodate your needs. If you have concerns or questions, contact the project foreman (located on the construction site). If you need further assistance you can contact me directly at 673-2360.
