Five Points Neighborhood Assoc.

Crime and Safety Issues, Future Projects

Feb 14, 2004

We have the applications for Cellular on Patrol. Please ask any association member or call Mary G. DeHoyos at 226-7706 for more information. These are for the March classes. If we can get this program started here we believe it will go a long way towards helping us clean up the neighborhood and make it a safer place for ourselves and our children.

As we all know the lighting in our neighborhood is poor. I need to know which areas are most in need of better lighting and sidewalk repair. I will be driving around the neighborhood at various times of the day to try and gather this information. If anyone would like to bring an area to our attention please call Mary G. DeHoyos at 226-7706 or Andrea Pena at 225-0755.

We have need as mentioned in the "Volunteer Opportunities..." section of this newsletter. The mailing list we obtained from the city is outdated and there were many announcements returned as a result. We need chairpersons and members for each committee. There has been interest from other organizations to start a beautification project in our area. There are abandoned commercial properties along Flores and Fredericksburg Rd. as well as some vacancies along San Pedro Ave. We can attract new businesses into our neighborhood if we can show that we care and are united in our efforts to improve our neighborhood. Come to the meetings, which are held the first Tuesday of each month at 7pm at Villa Tranchese Apartments at 307 Marshall.

Let us join hands and work together to make a difference in all our lives.
