STREET CLEANING

Picture

When do they clean MY street????

Street cleaning in Pasadena occurs every other week, except if the cleaning day occurs on a Holiday, in which case the schedule is shifted one week.

In the Washington Revitalization Area, there are 3 divisions for street cleaning. East of Garfield (including Garfield) is the end of Route 31, and is cleaned every other Monday, at about 2:00 am. Because it occurs on a Monday, the schedule is Occasionally shifted a week due to a Holiday. Route 31 goes all the way over to Lake Avenue.

The rest of the Revitalization area is "community route 16". It is called a "community route" because of insufficient trucks/drivers to have one driver do the entire route. Route 16 is broken up into 3 subdivisions (2 in the revitalization area) that are done at the end of the driver's normal route. From Garfield to Summit (including Garfield), the streets are cleaned every other Wednesday from about 8:00 am to 11:00 am. The driver's day is over at 11:00 am, so he is often rushing to finish.

From Summit to El Sereno (just west of Fair Oaks) (including Summit), the streets are cleaned every other Wednesday, from about 2:00 am to 4:00 am.

The drivers do the best they can to keep our streets clean, but they have to drive around parked cars and other obstructions. If we know when the sweeper is coming, we should make an effort to keep our cars off the street until their work is finished so we can keep our neighborhood looking good. We also need to be careful about other obstructions - for example rocks - please make sure no rocks are placed in the street, and if you see any move them onto the parkway or in the trash. For "Palm Fronds", or other large debris from street trees, call Pasadena Parks and Forest at (626)744-4321 as it is their responsibility to pick up these items and they recycle them by grinding them and using them for mulch in our parks etc.

So which week is our week and not the "other" week? They cleaned on Jan 5,2000 and Jan. 19,2000.

Following the "every other week" schedule on the calendar you can easily see if this is the week for cleaning, or if it will be next week. Or, to be safe, make sure your car is not in the way every Wednesday (or Monday depending on your house location).
