A three million grant to Fort Oglethorpe [ 2014 ]

How does a city get a federal grant? There are thousands of cities in the country and all of them could use some help in making improvements and yet only a few get the grants. More likely than not it's because the city has a professional city manager who is aware of the grant process. It is a long and tedious process and requires the willingness to wait several years for the funds to come through.

Pictured here are some photographs of the beautiful city walkway that now winds it's way through the city. The grant process started for this project 25 years ago when Virginia Smith was city manager. She asked me if I would help with grant writing but I had more things to do than I could manage so together we found a lady who had some experience and sort of guided her through the task. At times we wondered if funds would ever come through but in due time it did. Now many many enjoy the walk and the aesthetics of the walkway everyday.
