Dear Neighbors,
As speed and other traffic related violations seems to be a prevalent issue in our community, I have decided this may be a good time to republish a newsletter article I have sent to neighborhood associations in the past. I hope this education process and the "Sticker Shock" effect of the minimum fines may bring to the forefront of all of our minds the need to slow down and abide by the traffic laws for all of our benefit. Please note the emphasis placed upon school zone and construction areas violations.

Hello Fossil Creek Neighbors,
February 2005
The Fossil Creek Safety Committee has met and discussed issues related to safety in our community. Many issues were brought forward and prioritized in the manner in which they will be addressed in upcoming meetings. All residents were invited to attend and give their input concerning these issues so that all residents will have the opportunity to present their ideas. The consensus of the committee will govern recommendations to the Board of Directors for action on these issues. While all sides of an issue will be discussed, progress toward a solution will be our goal. All meetings are open to any member who would like to join in to hear and be heard.
The first task the Safety Committee has chosen to address concerns issues related to speeding vehicles in the neighborhood. This topic will encompass discussion about speeding motor vehicles, placement of speed humps, signage, enforcement and issues related to complaints concerning unsupervised juveniles operating unlicensed motorized vehicles (including motorcycles, motorized scooters, mini-bikes, pocket bikes and other related unregistered and unlicensed vehicles and operators). Two meetings will be held at the Sedillo home (See announcement on back). The first to discuss the primary cause and effects of the speeding vehicles and the impact of allowing continued operation of the unlicensed/registered vehicles and the second meeting to formulate and action plan to be recommended to the Board of Directors. There will be ample time between the two meetings to allow each concerned member to further research the issues before the second meeting to present the options for a consensus vote of the members, which will be sent to the Board.
It goes without saying that the Fossil Creek Owner Association (FCOA) has the authority to regulate access into the subdivision as well as use of its streets (Article 9 Sect 4 pg 37 Covenant and deed Restrictions). It is the collective feelings of the Board of Directors, that each member of our community should have a say in what our community standards will be. We do not wish to make a subjective decision, but a well-informed one from the research, discussions and recommendations of the consensus of the Safety Committee. Without attendance and meaningful input from all you who have an interest in these discussions, we will have to act in the best interest of our community based upon the views of those who attended and decided on the course to follow. In short, if you do not attend the meetings and stay informed about what is going on in our neighborhood, then you will find yourselves having to follow the standards set by those who do involve themselves and present their views.
I hope to see you at the next meeting. Until then be safe and remember to call me if you have any safety concern.

Safety Committee Chairman
-Several teen boys were contacted after driving a four-wheeled dune buggy and two motorcycles into the neighborhood. They advise, " Fossil Creek has always been the place to go", because no one ever told them they couldn't and they were not allowed to drive these vehicles on city streets. They also said they were going to visit a resident's son (found untrue). -----They were asked to leave.
-A resident's home was vandalized in daytime after criminal(s) broke out several windows to the side of the home before fleeing------Police were called and suspect vehicles were disseminated to all with an email address.
-A resident reported on 2/15 that she believed one of the vehicles was sighted in the neighborhood and after she took special notice of the vehicle, the driver and occupants fled the neighborhood------Police are following up to contact the owner of the vehicle reported to police as "suspicious"---Good work Mahan's!!
-A resident reported a Hispanic male, wandering behind her home during the day. He appeared to be getting water from the back of the house but fled into the wooded area behind the house. ---Police were called but did not locate the man---Be aware that this is a common ploy used by daytime burglars...Call Police!!
