Foster-Powell Neighborhood Association

November 2000 Newsletter

Nov 13, 2000

Dear Neighbors,

Commissioner Dan Saltzman
Mark your calendars for Tuesday, December 5, 2000, when Commissioner Dan Saltzman will be attending the monthly meeting of the Foster-Powell Neighborhood Association. Come with your questions and concerns. This will be a comfortable setting where you will have a chance to really get to know Commissioner Saltzman and tell him about what is on your mind, and to ask him about issues that are important to you. Come at 7:00 sharp, since Commissioner Saltzman will be the first item on our agenda.

Bring a food item or a new toy in December
When you come to the neighborhood meeting in December, please bring a non-perishable food item for charity, or bring an arts & craft or sport item to give to the Lents Boys & Girls Club. Items appropriate for the Boys & Girls Club include color crayons, marker pens, tracing paper, color books, paints, colored paper, balls, card games, ping pong balls, chalk for the pool table ?– you get the idea. The kids are from first grade to not quite high school age. The items collected will be donated to local charities in the name of the Foster-Powell Neighborhood Association.

Onyx Club
The owners of the Onyx Club came to our November meeting. They talked about noise and security issues and have promised to work with our crime specialist, Rhetta Deason (503-232-0010, x 24), to resolve problems. They now have a decibel meter and will use it outside their building to make sure their sound is not too loud. They have agreed to turn the sound down when the building is not as full, since the noise seems to carry outside the building more as the club empties. They have agreed to patrol the parking lot much more than they have been. They will be back at our meeting after the first of the year so we can talk about how they are doing.

Red?’s Bar & Grill
Red?’s Bar & Grill has put up a fence on the east side of the property, and has added signs on the fence asking their patrons for courtesy. I visited Red?’s one evening last month, and noticed that there are signs on the door, at eye level, asking their motorcyclist customers not to rev their motors. I have not heard any complaints about Red?’s for about two months, but if there are continued concerns, please give me a call or e-mail me.

Meetings are always on the FIRST Tuesday of each month from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., at the St. Anthony Parish Hall, 3618 SE 79th (green and white building at south end of the complex-please use the south door). Everyone living in the triangle between Foster, Powell, & 82nd Ave. is already a member, and all are welcome. Call Cindy Peek at 503-775-3006 for more information, or e-mail me at clpeek@aol.com; more information is available at www.neighborhoodlink.com/portland/foster.
