TREE PLANTING EVENT!
Saturday, April 9, 2005
8:30 AM
John Marshall Elementary School
[Altadena Avenue]
By Joni Low - On Saturday, April 9, Councilmember JIM MADAFFER is joining the San Diego Regional Asthma Coalition and People for Trees to plant trees in City Heights. Councilmember Madaffer provided funding to purchase and plant 25 low-allergy trees. The event will take place at Marshall Elementary School beginning at 8:30 a.m.
The public is welcome to attend.
Trees will also be planted at the Bandar Salaam and Villa Alta apartments. Communities can improve air quality and promote energy efficiency through tree plantings. Planting large numbers of trees for this purpose, referred to as urban forestry, can reduce atmospheric carbon dioxide, absorb gaseous pollutants (ozone, nitrogen oxides) intercept particulate matter (i.e. dust, ash, pollen, smoke), and lower air temperatures. Trees can also improve water quality by reducing storm water runoff. This event is a project of the Community Action to Fight Asthma [CAFA], which is funded by The California Endowment. Other partners include the American Lung Association, Horn of Africa and Marshall Elementary School.
Food and beverages will be provided by
Albertson’s and Starbucks Coffee
