With extreme PRIDE and with the help and presence of our Honorable Councilmember, our residents and Community Leaders gathered, this past Saturday, June 14, 2003, to unveiled (or unbowed) our neighborhood's street signs.
True to the fact that in Fox Canyon, we solve our community problems with very creative ideas, Elyse Olson, Council Rep (CD7) solved this problem by covering the signs for the unveiling, placing BIG COLORED METALIC BOWS and ribbons on the signs. The bows came down when the Councilmember pulled on the ribbons attached (in addition, to that, she went all the way up on the ladder by herself and without any help).
These signs have the unparalleled characteristic of our community's hands-on attitude and creative problem solving. Since, the Fox Canyon folks designed them, in a community workshop, under the leadership of the neighborhood association; this makes our street signs UNIQUE and UNEQUAL in the entire city of San Diego, just a small thing to be PROUD about. Without knowing, those attending the workshop picked white/blue/gray/black colors for the signs (the City of San Diego has chosen the same color mix) and our logo on the half noon on top. As you drive through our community, look-up and feel the same joy we do. In addition, you will find your way arround with ease, due to the fact that our new signs are all the same color, style, big lettering, and strongly reflective, Graffiti resistant, as well!
Mr. Sam Johnson, Maricela Leon and Mr. Kennedy of Community Development supervised the grant from Councilmember Madaffer. Mr. Cliff Nelson of NELSON TRAFFIC SUPPLY made the signs up in his LA factory. The city of San Diego placed the signs on location, FREE of charge, and Jose Lopez, the Fox Canyon Neighborhood Association's President, just smiled and agreed to everything, without signing a single piece of paper. It's a wonderful life in Fox Canyon!
