Enforcement of the Health and Sanitation Ordinance applies only to properties within the Charlotte city limits
Although not required, we encourage you to leave your name and phone number. This is helpful in the event the inspector has a question about your request. In addition, you will be called back with the results of the inspection.
What you can expect
The inspector will identify the property owner using the Mecklenburg County Tax database. In addition he may also cite the tenant. A letter will be sent to the identified property owner/tenant describing the existing violations and action necessary to bring the property into compliance. Time for compliance may vary depending on the circumstances. The inspector may grant an extension (within reason) to the violator. If the violations are not corrected within the allotted time, the inspector may:
Issue a citation
Seek injunction relief through Environment
Court
Hire a contractor to correct the violation. If the property owner fails to pay the City for costs incurred by the contractor, a lien will be placed against the property.
