The Police Department has adopted a new ?“sector policing?” strategy. Lieutenant Kevin Stoll, who is now responsible for overseeing operations in the Fifth Precinct south of Lake Street, introduced himself at the Safety Committee?’s January meeting. Reporter Brent Killackey explained the changes in the February 7 issue of The Southwest Journal: ?“In the past, a lieutenant was assigned to supervise each of the three shifts during the day. Now, one lieutenant has responsibility for a territory and the supervision of the staff for an entire 24-hour shift.?” Lt. Stoll said that the reason for the change was to improve communication and accountability within the precincts. Patrol officers will be regularly assigned to the same areas, with two squads each for the sectors from Lake to 38th Streets and from 38th Street south to the city limits. Lt. Stoll is a resident of the Kenny neighborhood and is well aware of the two major public safety issues in Fulton, traffic and graffiti.
