Our January 17, 2002 General meeting was attended by 15 people in addition to our guest speakers and Commissioner Doug Neeley.
The guest speakers included Chris Hathaway from the Lower Columbia River Estuary Partnership and Paul Heimowitz from Oregon State University Extension Sea Grant. They presented information on the NEMO project they are working on in Oregon City. This project is looking at the many nonpoint pollution sources (lawns, farm fields and parking lots) that are a major factor in maintaining water quality. Additionally, Marcia Sinclair from the Environmental Learning Center at Clackamas Community College was there to inform us about the Newell Creek Project she is working on. The two presentations went hand in hand because NEMO deals with non-porous surface run-off that ends up going down Newell Creek.
After the great presentation by our guest speakers, the members present voted on the proposed 2002 budget for GLNA and also to expand GLNA boundaries. This expansion is to include properties within the city limits South of Meyers Road and West of Highway 213, as well as the island of businesses that fall in the triangle of south of Beavercreek Road, west of Highway 213 and north of Molalla Avenue.
New business items included setting dates for the neighborhood clean up, garage sale and dessert potluck (see dates below). GLNA is seeking a representative to the Chief?’s Advisory Forum. If you?’re interested, contact Janet Brand at 503-657-6096.
