Grant Monies Available from Metro-Enhancement Committee

Gaffney Lane Neighborhood could benefit from grant monies available through the Oregon City—Metro Enhancement Committee beginning June 2002. Applications are now available and are being accepted until April 15, 2002.

How can Gaffney Lane NA benefit—we need beautification ideas and input into writing the grant. As a steering committee we’ve been unable to come up with a project that would fit the parameters of the grant.

History of the Metro Enhancement Funds and Grants

The background on the committee is as follows: in 1988, Oregon City and Metro entered into an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) and created the Metro Enhancement Committee between the City and the regional government, Metro. The IGA that created the committee also covers the operations of the Metro South Solid Waste Transfer Station on Washington Street and Highway 213.
Metro provides to the City an enhancement and mitigation fee of fifty cents per ton on all solid waste shipped from the Metro South Transfer Station. A small percentage of this total goes into the City’s General Fund in lieu of taxes, and the rest is placed into the Metro Enhancement Fund. Any revenue that is not spent during a given fiscal year is carried over to the next fiscal year, and may then be allocated toward future projects.
For the next fiscal year, 2002-2003, there is $150,000 available to beautification projects that are in the corporate City limits of Oregon City.
