The Garden of Eden Neighborhood Association ended 2006 with a gathering of members and friends attending its first Holiday Celebration and Bake Sale. Guests included Jesse Torres from the City of Fort Worth?’s Planning Department along with his wife, Jeanie. Other guests included those who were on hand to pick up cakes and pies they had ordered as a result of the Star Telegram newspaper article which featured some of the Christmas traditions and desserts served in the Garden of Eden during the childhood days of Dollie Sanders-Gentry and Dorothy Brown. The desserts featured in the article were accompanied by the actual recipe and a nutritional analysis. Some of the guests brought one of their favorite dishes to be shared with others in attendance. They also brought a recipes to share with members of the Garden of Eden. Thanks to a creative idea of Trina Sanders-Leach, the event was a huge success and generated a slew of orders for our cookbook entitled ?“Recipes From Out to the House?” which will be published in April 2007. This fundraiser will help with the construction of a living museum, replicating the home of pioneer settlers, Major and Malinda Cheney. The original home of Major and Malinda Cheney was destroyed by fire, but the memory has been preserved and kept alive by renderings.
