The Garden of Eden NA attended the 31st Annual NUSA Conference and received first place in the category of Social Revitalization-Single Neighborhood and a $500.00 check.
The NA was also named the USA Neighborhood of the Year selected by the panel of judges at the annnual conference. A check in the amount of $500.00 was also presented to the grand prize winner. The NA made a PowerPoint presentation and shared information about the organization of the Garden of Eden NA, its rich history and the 3 day Neighborhood Reunion project which consisted of a re-dedication ceremony on the first night, a 5K Fun Run/Walk,BBQ Cook Off and old school games on the second day and a Father's Day celebration at the local historic Valley Baptist Church on Sunday June 19, 2005. To end the festivities, the Fort Worth Public Library's Mobile Unit was on hand to sign up new library card holders.
A crowd of 200 or more attended each day and the fund raisers netted approximately $2000.00 to help build the living museum in honor of the settlement's pioneer settlers, Major and Malinda Cheney.
