Fight Back Update February

The Fight Back Action Plan was ratified in December. Following is a condensed version of the list of the goals which we hope to accomplish with our fight back funds:

1. Achieve long term compliance on preservation violations by making the neighborhood a cleaner and more attractive place to live: complete a minimum of 2 clean ups, conduct a neighborhood safety audit, schedule a ?“knock and talk?”, and schedule presentations on zoning ordinances, landlord tenant relations, and crime-free multihousing.

2. Reduce the incidence of auto theft, drug activity, and prostitution by 10-15% in our neighborhood: schedule at least two prostitution stings, request intensive patrol by Phoenix PD, schedule a speaker on auto theft, and encourage residents to provide the police staff with addresses of suspected criminal activity.

3. Reduce speeding in the neighborhood and increase safety: request police to ticket speeders in our area, schedule a speaker on traffic and safety education & safe route to school, request studies for speed humps.


4. Assist with enhancements to ?‘Homestead Park?’ by exploring possibility of an Enhancement Grant that would include fencing the perimeter (east/west) sections of the park. Apply for abandonment of both 25th and 26th Drives at Glendale Ave.

5. Decrease the number of dark areas in the neighborhood by installing additional lighting at various locations.

6. Address the safety and maintenance of the Black Canyon Frontage Road: explore the possibility of installing sidewalks through CDBG process, and determine responsibility for maintaining frontage road.

7. Improve visible conditions at the trailer park located at 2514 W. Glendale Ave: develop a plan to address specific concerns such as roofs, fences, setbacks, parking issues, and exterior zoning violations.
