GERC Communications Net

The Glendora Emergency Response Communications group serves the City of Covina to provide amateur radio communications for the Covina Christmas Festival and the Covina Christmas Parade. The 2009 Festival is tentatively scheduled for Saturday November 21, 2009 and the 59th Annual Christmas Parade is tentatively scheduled for Saturday December 5, 2009. Approximately 24 radio operators are required to provide communications for these events.

WHAT?’S THE JOB?

GERC W6C radio net members are the eyes and ears for the Christmas Festival event committee. Some of operators may have additional communications responsibilities, but for most, this is their prime responsibility. This means that they report any issues concerning health and safety as well as danger to life and limb.

GERC hams are not law enforcement or paramedics. They are not event staff or a security detail. They do not get involved with incidences at the event. As observers however, the hams radio report to a central location where contacts to the appropriate responders are made. After their shift there is a short debriefing and reporting of incidences at the Net Control location.

The Glendora Emergency Response Communications group conducts a Simplex net every Tuesday at 2030 hrs on 144.360 mHz. All licensed amateurs are welcome to check in. Please vist our website at www.neighborhoodlink.com/org/gerc for further information.
