What? Radio Direction Finding (RDF), also known as T-hunting, Fox Hunting, and sometimes Radio-Orienteering, is a popular activity among amateur radio operators where one or more transmitters are hidden somewhere and are found using radio direction finding equipment. Participants learn about electronics, antennas, propagation, and teamwork. When a transmitter is on the air, the hunters ?“take bearings?” using directional antennas by determining the direction where the signal is the strongest. It is intended to be fun and challenging for all ages and physical conditions of the participants. Each participant will be given an event map with the boundaries of the event marked. A start and finish line are also marked on this map.
Who are the Radio-Orienteers?
Most R-Oers are in it for fun, enjoyment, and challenge. Radio-Orienteering attracts people from both orienteering and ham radio backgrounds. A ham license is not needed to participate.
Learn from the expert! Joe Moell, K0OV a nationally known RDF expert will be conducting the event and providing instruction. Visit Joe?’s website at www.homingin.com for details.
