ARadio direction Finding Event a Success

Nov 05, 2005

I wish to thank all those who participated and helped out with the GERC sponsored ARDF event last Saturday at Gladstone Park. By all accounts and analyses the event was very successful. 48 people attended which included 38 hams. who came from distances as far away as San Diego, Riverside, Santa Barbara and points in between. Our hats are off to Roy, KG6RGD and Frank KG6TQV for their great barbeque expertise. They kept the grill going as the finishers arrived back from the course. I wish to thank also Jerry, Matt, Don and Carolyn for their great help in setting things up and keeping me calm. We are indebted to Joe Moell, K0OV and his wife April WA6OPS the real RDF experts for instructing the beginners and keeping accurate time records for each participant.

The beginners course best time was placed by Bill Jacobsen N6PDG and his sons Jordan and Justin. Their time to find all 5 hidden transmitter was 50 minutes and 59 seconds. Second was Rob Foth, KE6YGf and his family at just 1 hour and 30 seconds

On the advanced course Scott Barth KA6UDZ, an international medal winning ARDFer located all five transmitter on South Hills in 1 hour and 36 minutes. Scott Moore placed second with 2 hours and 58 minutes to locate all five.

Again many thanks to all participants and volunteers who made it a great day! KF6DSA
