A Message From Your President

Oct 20, 2004

Dear Neighbors,

I am encouraged at the number of you who are taking an active role in our community. In particular, thank you to the members of the Beatification Committee who have now met on two occasions.

The objectives of the committee are:

?·? to improve our community by ensuring that maintenance is better taken care of;

?·? to enhance the neighborhood by the installation of additional landscaping and improved pond care;

?·? to increase Homeowner awareness and participation in the neighborhood and encourage better maintenance of lawns.

Several ideas are currently being researched including the installation of additional landscaping around the ponds and the part of Ledgement Lane where the power lines cross.
One stumbling block is what Progress Energy will or will not permit. We have invited them to the next Board meeting so that we can get their direction first-hand and understand any restrictions they might impose. We will keep you informed of additional progress as it happens.

Another idea we are working on is to introduce lawn care as part of the homeowner dues. We have previously received a bid for the treatment of weeds and application of fertilizers which would amount to about $25 a month. Most of us are paying this (or more) already to a wide variety of providers or we are spending the equivalent on chemicals and doing it ourselves. Those of us who are not paying probably should be and you don?’t have to look far to see lawns that are crying out to be fed!

The Board is interested in receiving your feedback on the idea. Remember that at this stage, we are talking about chemical treatments only, we may consider cutting later. Please send me your comments by email to derekmorgan@cfl.rr.com or contact Tony Morton at Sutherland Management to leave a phone message.
Speaking of Tony, he is our new community manager at Sutherland and we are looking forward to a more stable management situation after a period of (considerable) unrest.

I would also like to welcome Jonathon Usha to the Board of Directors. The Board appointed Jon at the last meeting following Cathy Ferrara?’s resignation. Jon will serve the remainder of Cathy?’s term. Please note that all positions come up for re-election in August. If you are interested in being a candidate, please contact Sutherland for an application form.

A final ?“Thanks?” goes to Norma Robinson for taking on the newsletter. I am sure you will see throughout the remainder of this issue that she is off to a great start.

One last thing, please note the change of date for the next Annual General meeting. It will now be held at the Windermere Library on August 26, 2004.I hope to see you there.

Best regards, Derek Morgan--President
